
1. Project Background: Limestone Grinding Station For South Australia Desulfurization Market
This set of limestone powder processing equipment is a turnkey project we delivered to a local mining contractor in South Australia. The client runs a small limestone quarry locally, and previously relied on outsourcing fine powder to supply nearby thermal power plants for flue gas desulfurization. As local demand for desulfurization limestone powder kept rising, they decided to build their own on-site grinding line to cut transportation and outsourcing costs.
After comparing multiple Raymond mill models on the market, we recommended the 5R4121 type as the core host based on their daily output target and raw ore hardness. The 5R4121 Raymond mill has a theoretical capacity range of 2 to 9.5 tons per hour, but we set the daily stable running output at 3.5 tons per hour on purpose. Under the long high-temperature weather in Australian inland areas, keeping a moderate load can greatly slow down the wear of grinding rollers and rings, and reduce annual maintenance costs.
Consistent with the working habits of most local Australian mining sites, the client adopts a two-shift 8-hour working system, with 1 hour reserved every day for equipment shutdown inspection, internal material cleaning and lubrication maintenance. Based on 3.5 tons per hour stable output, the plant can produce about 56 tons of qualified limestone powder every working day. The finished powder fineness is adjustable between 80 mesh and 400 mesh, which fully covers the particle size requirements of local power plant desulfurization and building mortar fillers.

2. Plant Configuration & Actual Field Technical Parameters
Considering the arid and windy climate of the Australian inland mining area, this project is specially designed as an open-air scheme. We added a custom heavy steel rain shelter frame and outdoor sealed electrical control cabinet for the whole line, so there is no need to build a fully enclosed factory building, which saves a lot of civil construction costs for the customer. All parameters are calibrated for open-air high-temperature working conditions:

3.1 Moderate Load Design Adapts To High Temperature Environment
The inland mining areas of Australia have high ambient temperatures for most of the year. If the Raymond mill runs at full load for a long time, the main bearing and grinding roller assembly will overheat seriously, which will not only accelerate wear but also easily cause safety failures. We control the stable output at 3.5t/h to leave sufficient performance margin, which can effectively extend the service life of wearing parts and reduce the annual spare parts replacement cost by about 30%.
3.2 Open-Air Steel Frame Saves Huge Civil Construction Investment
Local steel structure workshop construction costs in Australia are very high. Instead of requiring customers to build a fully enclosed workshop, we designed a matched steel rain and sun shelter for the whole grinding line, which only covers the top of the equipment without side wall sealing. This design reduces the customer’s civil engineering investment by more than 60%, and at the same time effectively protects the equipment from direct sunlight, rain and wind sand erosion.
3.3 Upgraded Dust Removal Meets Strict Australian Environmental Regulations
Australia has very strict control on dust emission from mining projects. We upgraded the matching pulse dust collector for 5R4121 mill with fully sealed outdoor cabinet and windproof dust recovery structure. After on-site installation and commissioning, the on-site dust concentration passed the local environmental protection test at one time, and no additional dust-proof transformation is required in later production.
3.4 Simplified Control System Reduces Local Operation Threshold
The supporting PLC control cabinet adopts outdoor sealed design, which is resistant to high temperature, dust and wind sand. We simplified the operation interface and removed the complicated professional parameter adjustment menu. Each shift only needs one operator to take charge of the whole set of equipment, and the core operation data can be viewed directly on the screen, which is easy for local workers to get started quickly.
